After devoting many long hours of hard work and practice in preparation for the traditional Kinderfest, the big day finally arrived. On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, the city of St Gallen celebrated its school children.
At 9:00 am, under sunny skies, some 5,000 children set out on their parade march from the city center up to the Kinderfestplatz. Approximately 30,000 spectators lined the streets to greet the children with hearty applause.
Our students also joined in the festivities. In the weeks leading up to the parade, the PURA VIDA students enthusiastically spent their time researching the history of Kinderfest, choosing, designing and trying on the clothes they would wear, as well as practicing for marching in the parade.
This year’s motto of “Fadian”, a play on words, combining Fäden(ribbons) and Vadian, inspired the PURA VIDA students to carry ribbons during the parade, for playing string games or weaving into various images, symbolic of the textile industry and the city’s great reformer, Vadian.
Arrival at the Kinderfestplatz meant time to find your friends and go exploring the various attractions, watch the amazing performances on stage and, of course, enjoy a St Gallen Kinderfest Bratwurst.
