SchoolART project week – March 2025

Art unites – creative week under the rainbow

While part of our school was away at camp, the school building was by no means quiet. A colourful, creative and eventful project week filled our rooms with life, colour and a strong sense of community.

Under the motto ‘Somewhere over the rainbow – Things we love!’, students from the kindergarten, primary school and from the secondary school worked together to design ten wooden panels measuring around 1×1 metre, which will decorate the walls of our dining room and kitchen.

First, the students carefully developed sketches of things they love – from everyday school life to personal favourite moments and heartfelt wishes. In small art teams of two to four people, the motives were brought together and combined to create harmonious picture ideas. Initial exercises on small canvases familiarised everyone with acrylic paints before moving on to the large works.

Beforehand, the students prepared the art rooms, then painted, sprayed and experimented with teamwork, lots of protective film and good humour – big and small artists worked hand in hand. The fronts of the panels were lovingly designed with brushes and acrylic paints, while the backs were later sprayed with cans. This task was taken on by the older students, who were well equipped with masks and smocks. Here, too, they first practised on large cardboards before moving on to the wooden panels.

In between, an alternative programme provided variety: while the older students solved tricky puzzles and discovered exciting places on an exciting city rally through the old town of St. Gallen, the younger ones enjoyed a trip to the playground. During the remaining day and a half, the creative work continued. In addition to the wooden panels, other great handicrafts, jewellery beads, musical contributions and building projects were created – always accompanied by lots of fun and imagination.

What was particularly nice was that some students also used this week voluntarily for intensive learning, for example in preparation for the entrance exam for the Kanti. Our all-rounder and philosopher Mr Schmid personally accompanied and individually supported them with a lot of commitment and a great thirst for knowledge.

On Friday, the finished panels were finally prepared so that they could be hung up. With a joint tidy-up and lots of smiling faces, we started into our well-deserved holidays – with lots of wonderful memories and the feeling of having created something very special together.
