2018 was the fourth-hottest year ever and will remain no exception. Heat and drought have decimated harvests in Europe; India has experienced huge flooding; in Cape Town, Day Zero could barely be averted without drinking water.
There is no life without water and so this precious natural resource is of concern to all of us. Even though Switzerland has sufficient water, it is committed to solving global water problems.
Today, 2.1 billion people have no access to clean water. This is more than one in four people.
In an interactive workshop with humanitarian experts from third world countries, our students learned about the needs for water using concrete examples. They tested the safety of water, produced chlorine for drinking water purification and implemented simple and effective hygiene measures to prevent epidemics.
Water is life!
