On January 12, 2017, PURA VIDA had the pleasure to host Philipp Hostettler and his lecture “School very different”.
The speaker has been dealing with the topic of school and education for 25 years, was involved in the establishment of the pioneer project Monterana School and Kindergarten (Degersheim SG), knows the pioneer schools in Switzerland and has two sons of full age who attended such a school and a daughter (8) who is currently learning at home as a free learner.
The speaker told us about new ways of learning beyond pressure and stress as well as about being a child and being alive as a breeding ground for happy adults.
Questions discussed included:
Does school, as it is currently done, have anything to do with education? Why do our toddlers learn to talk and walk through play without ever having been taught? What kind of image of man does our school system have? How useful is it to “fill” children with given material? What students learn on the trampoline, while climbing trees and on the sofa. Why such students can easily find apprenticeships without a certificate. Learning is completely different – especially joyfully easy.
PURA VIDA is not a “school very different” – but it does school a little differently.
